Hosting Since 2008

A 1950s ranch saved from the wrecking ball — redesigned as Asheville's most storied vacation rental.

The History

Before "Intimate Gatherings"
Was a Trend

In 2008, two parallel decisions shaped what this property became — and what Asheville outdoor living looks like today.

Saving a 1950s Ranch Home

While developers were flattening mid-century ranches to build McMansions, our host — a professional interior decorator with 20+ years of experience — saw what others couldn't: good bones, vintage character, and architectural integrity worth preserving.

The Asheville Citizen-Times covered the renovation in "Giving Ranch a Chance," celebrating a vision that honored 1950s architecture while layering in modern luxury.

Pioneering Vacation Rentals in Asheville

That same year, the Citizen-Times featured this home again — for the then-radical concept of renting a beautifully designed property to travelers. Airbnb didn't exist yet. VRBO was barely known. This was the real start of boutique vacation rentals in Asheville.

Seventeen years and 86+ five-star reviews later, that bet has paid off every single time a guest walks through the front door.

  • Taco Temple: Terrific street-style tacos. Call ahead to order or enjoy a casual wait outside.
  • Local Mornings: Grab fresh sourdough at City Bakery, garden-patio dining at Liberty House Cafe, or fresh cold-pressed juices at Pulp + Sprout.

Downtown Favorites

  • Battery Park Champagne Bar & Book Exchange: A bookstore with exceptional desserts, light plates, and champagne flights. Perfect for patio people-watching.
  • Five Points Restaurant: Unfussy Greek-American family diner on Broadway. Excellent inexpensive breakfasts, killer Greek salads, and great burgers.
  • Late Night Slices: Stop by Pie.zaa down near the South Slope for giant, high-quality late-night slices.
  • Planning Ahead: Make bookings for Curate, Neng Jr., and Tupelo Honey as early as possible.

Sunset & Rooftop Bars

  • The Flat Iron Rooftop & Speakeasy: Three rooftop patios, a secret underground speakeasy on weekends, and their Michelin-rated restaurant, Luminosa.
  • Westward Views: The Doubletree on Haywood and the Embassy Suites over Haywood/240 look due west for clean sunset lines.
  • The Restoration Hotel: Perched over Patton Ave, directly across from the Pritchard Park Friday night drum circle.
  • The AC Marriott: Offers an expansive, unobstructed north-eastern mountain view.

Neighborhood Gems & Beyond

  • Sunny Point Cafe (West Asheville): Popular local spot with beautiful garden-patio seating. Arrive right at 9:00 AM to beat the line; the biscuits and scones are worth the wait.
  • The Admiral & Leo's House of Thirst: Head to West Asheville for unique, chef-driven dishes, signature cocktails (The Admiral), or curated wines on the patio (Leo's).
  • 12 Bones BBQ: A classic local favorite for slow-smoked barbecue. Their South location features a brewery and dog-friendly outdoor seating.
