A 1950s ranch saved from the wrecking ball — redesigned as Asheville's most storied vacation rental.
In 2008, two parallel decisions shaped what this property became — and what Asheville outdoor living looks like today.
While developers were flattening mid-century ranches to build McMansions, our host — a professional interior decorator with 20+ years of experience — saw what others couldn't: good bones, vintage character, and architectural integrity worth preserving.
The Asheville Citizen-Times covered the renovation in "Giving Ranch a Chance," celebrating a vision that honored 1950s architecture while layering in modern luxury.
That same year, the Citizen-Times featured this home again — for the then-radical concept of renting a beautifully designed property to travelers. Airbnb didn't exist yet. VRBO was barely known. This was the real start of boutique vacation rentals in Asheville.
Seventeen years and 86+ five-star reviews later, that bet has paid off every single time a guest walks through the front door.
37 professional photos across every space — indoors and out.
Stone patio, fire pit, private hot tub, covered porch swing — the outdoor spaces were pioneering in 2008 and still set the standard. This is where the real memories get made.
Book on AirbnbFully private outdoor spa — one of the first hot tub installations in Asheville's vacation rental market.

Unobstructed downtown and Blue Ridge Mountain views from the elevated outdoor deck.

Posted on GeoffreyVerified This house was exactly what we wanted and needed. Absolutely perfect house for 2 couples - from the decks/porches to the hot tub there were so many enjoyable spaces to relax and hangout. The location is fantastic - you can easily walk to some nice bars/restaurants a few blocks from the house and while the walk to downtown Ashville is a little longer - it is also totally feasible to do so from this house. The owners (and property manager who lives across the street) were super friendly and responsive. Thanks so much for an amazing weekend. We can't wait to come back!Posted on BobbiVerified Absolutely loved this house! Very cozy and close to everything in a beautiful neighborhood. An absolutely beautiful sitting porch. Definitely would come back to this house again.Posted on KristianVerified Lise’s have a beautiful home in a quite and relax neighborhood. Very close to downtown area, highways and restaurants. Perfect place to visit Ashville!!!Posted on RobertVerified This was a nice well located house. There was some miscommunication regarding houses supplies left out and the hot tub but outside of that it is a nice place to stay adjacent to Downtown Asheville.Posted on HeatherVerified Lovely, well-appointed home in a peaceful neighborhood. Easy walk to places to eat, and just a short drive to the attractions that make Asheville special.Posted on KaleneVerified We chose Lise’s rental because of the features and how close it was to the attractions we wanted to visit. The home felt welcoming and was perfect for our trip. We absolved the front porch for dining, as well as the gas fire pit for enjoying family time. The home met all our needs and more! Lise and her manager were great hosts. We would return to this house again!Posted on LindaVerified My husband and I love Asheville, and wanted a place to stay where we could work, walk to town and simply enjoy the area as if we lived here. This spot fit everything we needed and more. We continued to find new places to enjoy for walking, dining and simply "hanging out". We easily felt at home and will be happy to visit again!Posted on MakaylaVerified Loved our stay! Easy check-in, great location, and very friendly host!Posted on JoelVerified Place was overstocked with everything, linens, towels, seasonings and sauces, etc. Hosts were responsive and friendly.
