Featured in the Asheville Citizen-Times | Mid-Century Modern Design | 17 Years of Hospitality
In 2008, two things happened that would define what Asheville Intimate Gatherings would become.
While developers were flattening mid-century ranch homes to build McMansions, I fell in love with a vintage gem tucked into Asheville’s tree-lined neighborhoods. As a professional interior decorator with 20+ years of experience, I saw what others couldn’t: good bones, vintage charm, and architectural integrity worth preserving.
The Asheville Citizen-Times featured my renovation in “Giving Ranch a Chance” - celebrating a vision for honoring 1950s architecture while adding modern luxury.
That same year, the Citizen-Times featured this home again - for the then-radical concept of renting my beautifully designed property to strangers. Airbnb didn’t exist yet. VRBO was barely known. But I believed great design should be experienced, not just admired.
Original 1950s ranch layout.
Original materials honored.
Mature oak trees & privacy.
Dramatic architectural impact.
Asheville pioneer installation.
Unobstructed downtown views.
When I converted the carport into an outdoor living space in 2008, it was revolutionary. A tiled patio enveloped by mature trees, featuring a fire pit and hot tub—creating the template for Asheville outdoor living that you see everywhere today.
